01/01/1601 birthday/anniversary date automatically added...

After a few hours after having created some new contacts using the new Outlook.com People module, all contacts get the following added to them:

OTHER
Birthday: 01/01/1601
Anniversary: 01/01/1601

Note, I have changed my regional settings so that YYYY is shown as YY.

I never entered the above dates and it appears with every new contact after some time. Is also sync to Outlook for iOS but not Outlook 2016 or any other application.

I am using the new Outlook.com on a brand new account with all contacts created manually using the web interface. No import so no legacy information.

I have tried to remove the dates on e.g. iOS contacts and then they go away on the web on next sync. However, the appear again some hours later.

How to make this stop?

Please, I am an IT professional myself and clearing browser cache has absolutely nothing to do with why Outlook.com suddenly decides to add a birthday and anniversary date to my contacts created using the web interface.

There are other people complaining about the same on the forum and I have a feeling that it's some kind a batch process that is running in the background adding a default value to all contacts without one of these values.

I honestly think it's a bug so please have engineering look into it.

As mentioned, those two dates are in fact added as metadata to the contact profile and show up under contacts on my iPhone and in the windows 10 people app.

This is not a cache issue but rather a metadata value that is being added which I, as a user, have not entered.

Upon further studies, it appears that the two dates are automatically added after about two hours. So strange...

I'm experiencing this issue along with the related issue of contacts randomly being duplicated.

Things had been quiet on the outlook.com contacts front the past month or two, but it appears outlook.com pushed some updates the past week or two that have mucked things up again.

Same here - all happened in the past week or so.  But this time Outlook has now somehow via iCloud for Windows, gone in and screwed up my iPhone 6+ contacts.  Tons of duplicates.  Old contacts from years ago have reappeared.  1601 birthdates added to almost every contact.  Totally screwed up.  I'm so disappointed in microsoft once again!  I've always loved that my iPhone contacts were always perfect.  Now it's a nightmare of fixing and blocking access.  This is such a huge disappointment from Microsoft, and I live in Washington State!!

Same problem. Its's bad but at least I found how to remove the date. My Outlook language is Russian but I guess English interface is the same.

Step 1. Open advanced settings

Step 2. Clear date

This is disappointing me a lot!! I also fixed through the People app on Windows 10 removing duplicates, dirty numbers with invented special characters, and birthday and anniversary with Mon, 1 Jan 1601!!! After fixing also my Microsoft Exchange configured on my Samsung S6 was synced correctly...for one day!!!!

Today again previously deleted contacts appears again and with the same above problems! From where are they coming Microsoft????

On Windows 10 I have Outlook, on Samsung S6 Microsoft Exchange which sync Task and Calendar too..don't know where is my mistake!

Where and what is triggering the recreation of the wrong duplicate contacts??? Is it a known issue??

I'm having the same problem.  And to add to the misery, contacts that have the 1/1/1601 date auto-inserted into the Birthday and Anniversary fields in Outlook.com will refuse/fail to synch with the People App on both my Surface Pro 4 and my Windows Mobile.  It is infuriating.

I noticed that the account where is this happening seems to have transitioned to the Exchange backend, with a server address of eas.outlook.com.
