Unable to open archive file from OneDrive photos

I am trying to download all of the photos from a folder to my PC from OneDrive. When I attempt to open the .zip file, it tells me that it cannot open the file using 7-Zip. I try to open using windows explorer and it says that "The compressed (zipped) folder is invalid". I have tried downloading the photo folder twice and get the same thing both times.

I am running Windows 8.1. I am not using the OneDrive app in 8.1 as I have a local account and do not wish to tie my PC to the Windows Live account. The photos were uploaded using the Android OneDrive app from my smartphone.

Hi Jay,

Thank you for posting your question in OneDrive Community.

You seem to have an issue with accessing from OneDrive. We will assist you in fixing the issue.

  1. How exactly did you try to access photos using Windows Explorer?
  2. Does this occur with all Zip files or a particular zip file?

Reference link for more information.

Hope this helps you.

I'm having this issue, too.  I'm trying to download all of my OneDrive files onto an external drive in batches.  The files are mixed type.  All of the zips files are unreadable and I get the same message as above, "The compressed(zipped) folder is invalid."  Files are large, from 8GB to 500+GB.

Hi,

Which software\program are you using to unzip the files?

You should always use the same program to open the zip files using which you had zipped those. You can also try to open the files on a different computer and check.

I suggest you to save the file locally on the computer and then refer to the following Microsoft article for more information.

Zip and unzip files

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/zip-unzip-files

Additionally, you may use your favorite search engine to check for third party softwares over the internet that can help you unzip the files.

Note: Using Third Party Software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of Third Party Software can be solved. Using Third Party Software is at your own risk.

Please post back with the status of the issue and we will be glad to assist you further.

Karthik,

I'm using File Explorer.  I assume File Explorer should be able to uncompress files compressed by OneDrive, is that not the case?

Hi David,

Internet Explorer does not have feature to uncompress a file. In case if you download a file which is in compressed format you need to uncompress (unzip) the file.

Hope this information helps.

No, I'm sorry, but it was not helpful.  I said I used File Explorer to try to uncompress the file from OneDrive, not Internet Explorer.

Thanks,

David

Hi David,

I apologize for my previous reply.

Please write to us with the following information.

1) What happens when the file fails to uncompress? Do you get any error?

2) Do you face this issue with all the compressed files?

I suggest you to try to uncompress another compressed file and check if you face the same issue.

Not helpful at all. I'm having the same issue. I've uploaded a batch of .jpeg files to One Drive and when I send my client the download link (they are not OneDrive customers) they are forced to download all of the image files as one zipped folder rather than simple downloading all of the .jpegs and Windows' built in archiver is saying the .zip file produced by One Drive is invalid and won't open it. This has happened on two separate PCs. Is there a max size that can be downloaded as a functioning .zip file?

Hi Tony,

What is the size of the files you are trying to download?

When ever you try to download a folder it will download in the form of Zip file.

As a workaround, I suggest you to download a single file and check if it is showing the same error.

I also recommend you to try with different Web browser and check the issue.

Please reply to us with the status of the issue.

Thanks.
