OneDrive upload speed, why does it take so long to upload data

*Original Title: OneDrive upload speed

Why does it take 'Light Years' to up load a 1.5Gbit folder to OneDive yet the same up load to DropBox takes minutes?

I'm using the latest Windows 10 OS

Hi John,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.

We regret the inconvenience caused. I would like to inform you that the time it takes to upload or download a large amount of data from OneDrive depends on your Internet connection speed, how close you are geographically to our servers, how much your Internet service provider lets you upload in a day, the speed of your computer, and other factors. Also, the size of the data affects the speed.

Here are some tips for maximizing the transfer speed:
  • Use a wired instead of a wireless connection.

  • Avoid running other apps on your computer when you're uploading or downloading a large amount of data.

  • Avoid using your Internet connection for other activities while you're transferring a large amount of data. It might help to upload or download at night, when the connection is getting less use from other people in your area.

  • Before you begin transferring a large amount of data, make sure your computer isn't set to go to sleep. If it goes to sleep, all uploading and downloading will stop.

You may also enable the option for uploading files in batches and see if that helps. Here is the steps:

Right Click on One Drive icon in the notification area>Select Settings> Go to Performance tab> Check the box next to Improve upload speed by uploading files in batches.

Reply for further assistance and we'll be happy to assist.

I right clicked on One Drive icon selected Settings but there is no Performance tab as you said previously only Settings; Account; Auto-save and About.

My Internet Download speed is 53MBits/Sec and Upload speed is 3MBits/Sec.

I just wanted to add that it took me nearly half a day to upload 30GB.  I have 2Mb upload bandwidth.  I thought that was slow but 1.3GB is just painfully slow.  I use a Linksys WRT1200ac, Motorola SB6131, and have TW Cable Internet in CA.

As I explained to Navneet my Upload speed is about 3MBits/Sec and my file size is around 1.3GBits that should be around 10 Minutes to upload. DropBox carries out the task in that period of time but One Drive takes hours. Therefore There is something funderament wrong with One Drive.
