Are files in Onedrive (for consumers) encrypted at rest?

HI there,

I would like to find out if files in Onedrive (for consumers) encrypted at rest? I understand it is encrypted in transit but is it encrypted at rest in microsoft servers?

I understand that so far, onedrive for business is encrypted at rest, but i couldn't find anything on Onedrive(for consumers).

I am an office 365 home subscriber and I have 1tb currently. I trust Microsoft more than google, but without encryption, I wouldn't dare to upload things that are remotely personal (e.g. photos, receipts etc.).

I also understand that this issue has been a live one a few years back with many comments in the user voice section, but no microsoft employee has officially came out to confirm whether there is encryption for onedrive (non business) accounts.

Welcome to the Microsoft Community forums.

No, files in OneDrive for consumers are not encrypted at rest.

You will have to use a 3rd party encryption.
