OneDrive Installation From Apple App Store Fails with "Your OneDrive folder cannot be created in the location you selected"

I cannot create a location for OneDrive on installation (Version: 17.3.6296) - it always fails with the following dialog:

The saddest part of this is the text "Make sure that the location isn't on a removable drive, or on a disk that has a case-sensitive format."ALL my locations on the hard disk have a case-sensitive format - its a Mac after all.

Hi Terry,

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Do you face this issue when setting the location on the Hard Drive of your system?

You may face this issue when invalid or wrong drive letter gets assigned to the drive on which you are trying to set the location. I suggest you to change the drive letter and then check if it helps you.

"Do you face this issue when setting the location on the Hard Drive of your system?"

Yes.

"You may face this issue when invalid or wrong drive letter gets assigned to the drive on which you are trying to set the location."

Macbooks and OS X has their heritage in *inux/BSD systems, and as such only supports a hierarchical file system. There is no support for drive letters.

Hi Terry,

Thank you for replying.

When a user install OneDrive its necessary to delete any old directory from the PC. If the user does not delete the directories which are already inside the System and attempt to install at such situation the Mac OSX unable to perform install operation and send error report to the user. I suggest you to create a different location and check for the issue.

Annu,

I don't understand your response:

  1. The installation will only allow me to select an existing directory in which to create OneDrive. Perhaps I should modify my answer to #2 above and say I was trying to install OneDrive folder in /Users/terry. Please see the original screenshot. Which directory are you suggesting I delete?
  2. The directory /users/terry/OneDrive did not exist at installation time. It also doesn't exist after I press Next and the error dialog appears.

Regards,

Terry

Hi Terry,

Thank you for replying with the status of the issue.

This seems to be an issue with the User Profile Corruption. I would suggest you to uninstall the OneDrive from the system and then try to re-install it with a new identity/new User Account. Check if the issue still persist.

If the issue still persists, then I would suggest you to reset disk permissions and check if that helps. Refer the below link:

I am also experiencing this issue.

System information is as follows:

Late 2013 21.5" iMac

3.1GHz Intel Core i7

16GB RAM

OSX El Capitan - 10.11.2

Installation into various directories has been attempted, as has checking the permission of the drive(s) I am attempting to install upon.  I have also run the Apple supplied "Disk Utility" on the drive and verified permissions using 'First Aid'.  All are correct and no errors have been noted.

This is disappointing as I had intended to use OneDrive for Business as a replacement for DropBox.
