Fixing KeyChain Access

I recently reset my KeyChain

This morning I wake to discover the following error message from OneDrive

There was a problem accessing your keychain : Please check that the login keychain exists and that OneDrive has access to it. If prompted, please allow OneDrive access to your keychain.

The login keychain does exist. I don't know how to make sure OneDrive has access to it. Since the error I've never been prompted to allow OneDrive access. I just get an option to Quit OneDrive. That's it.

OneDrive has proven to be one of the most un-user friendly apps I have ever come across. The number of scenarios where the only option provided is to Quit, is rather ridiculous. If the hard drive I keep my OneDrive folder on is missing, rather than allowing something like a 're-connect', you have to Quit and set up the folder location all over again. And now this - where's the option to request access to the KeyChain at which point I could allow access and all would be fixed?

Can anyone advise how to allow OneDrive to regain access to my keychain?

Hi Rob,

I suggest you to uninstall and reinstall OneDrive from your Mac computer and check if it helps you.

Why didn't I think of that?

Didn't help. As a support engineer any chance you can explain the "how" in the error message "check that... OneDrive has access to it".

I deleted the app. Emptied trash. Downloaded it again from the app store and it opened with the same message.

This is obviously an issue where Microsoft hasn't anticipated that someone might delete their keychain and set up a new one in order to have a clean slate. OneDrive is obviously not sophisticated enough to request access to the keychain if it finds it no longer has access.

Can I get some proper help please.

I'm in the same boat with this error and have not found a solution.  I also agree with the OP on how useless the error messages prove to be.

Spent an hour with Microsoft remote connecting... watched them did everything I did to try and fully delete the app, then download and install again. When it gave the same error message he said effectively that Microsoft can't help.

Thankfully I managed to fix the problem myself. So for the other person with the same issue try this - open Keychain Access app. Find the 'OneDrive Cached Credential' and delete it.

After that opening OneDrive worked - asked for my log on details again and was able to set it back up.

This didn't work for me immediatly (deleting the onedrive cached credential) but doing this, and then a subsequent restart of the computer worked.

I still had to sign in again, and tell it where I want to put the onedrive folder, AGAIN, but luckily it seems to have all my stuff synced again.

whew. I can't take this **** anymore. The keychain **** is far and away the worst software feature Mac has ever tried to attempt. Onedrive has worked seemless for me over the years until these different types of keychains kept popping up.

Same boat here. Out of nowhere got the error:

There was a problem accessing your keychain : Please check that the login keychain exists and that OneDrive has access to it. If prompted, please allow OneDrive access to your keychain.

You can only quit or try again - a frustrating loop.

I deleted assets there were OneDrive or Skydrive in Keychain Access. I've deleted and reinstalled OneDrive twice. I can't get into it at all. I'm a paying customer with 20GB on it.

Thoughts?
