Q: After installing office 2013, Word and Excel crashes and displays "Microsoft Word has stopped working" or "Microsoft Excel has stopped working" This thread is locked from future replies

Just installed a preview of Office 2013. I am unable to run Word 2013 and Excel 2013. Powerpoint and Access are running just fine. I am getting the following errors:

Microsoft Word has stopped working

Microsoft Excel has stopped working

I have installed it in a laptop running on Windows 78 64-bit

Heureka! I found a solution that worked for me.

As both Word and Excel run fine in safe mode, do the following:

Open Word in safe mode (as explained above).

Click on File<Options<Add-Ins

Under Manage select COM Add-Ins

Click on GO and uncheck all checked add-inns (in my case ABBYY Finereader....)

and click OK.

You have to repeat this for Excel (where COM Add-ins is not the default choice, just scroll))

Now both apps should work fine.
