MS Project 2010: 32 / 64 bit problems!

I just bought MS Project 2010 from software4students the spec said 32bit or 64 bit.

I am running a 64 Bit Windows 7 OS with Office 2010 64 Bit and Visio 2010 64 Bit installed. The installer says:-
"You cannot install the 32 bit version of Office 2010 because you have 64-Bit Office products installed. These products are not supported with 32-Bit Installations."

The download specifically said that it was compliant with bot 32 bit and 64 bit OS'. I cannot find a 64 Bit version of MS Project what is wrong here?

Go back to the download site and check to see if there is a drop down box saying advanced options.

I have the same problem.

I downloaded the evaluation version of Project 2010 from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e0253bc8-42a7-4d45-8562-1c3fede6a8aa&displaylang=en

When I try to install it I get the same error message as the person above. I also have Office 2010 64 bit installed on Windows 7.

Can't find a 64 bit download for Project 2010 Evaluation in the download center.

But on this FAQ site (http://www.microsoft.com/project/en/us/project-desktop-faqs.aspx) it says:

32 bit Project will run quite happily on a 64 bit OS.

Try the "Get Free Trial" link here: https://www.microsoft.com/project/en/us/default.aspx

That will give you the option to download the 32 bit or 64 bit package.  You must install the same version as what you already have for Office....

I am running Office 2010 64 bit

I downloaded the trial version of MS project 64 bit

When I try to install MS Project 2010 I get an error msg saying that project 64 bit will not install because I am running a 32bit MS Office program which is MS Office 2010 Single Image

I don"t know what this program is or how to uninstall it

I installed 32 bot MS project 2003 and it runs fine

Very frustrating

It seems as though the people posting answers DIDN'T READ THE ORIGINAL, PERFECTLY ARTICULATED PROBLEM.

we've got 64b Office products already installed.  Per Microsoft's specs, we cannot install any version of Project other than 64bit.

So we're trying to install Project 2010 64b, and it is telling us that we have 32b office products installed.  I tell you this isn't true. It specifically lists "Compatability Pack for the 2007 Office System".  I saw this on my machine previously (from control panel/uninstall programs) and removed it when I installed the other office 2010 64b products.  NOW the compatibility pack doesn't show up in the unisntall programs list, yet I still get the error message.

So now what, Microsoft?  Registry surgery again?

So...yep. Registry surgery.

I did a search using RegEdit (thank god this survived to Window 7) for the offending 32b product, in my case it was "Compatibility Pack for the 2007 Office system".  It found only one key.  So used the Export function to save a copy of the reg entry (just in case I cut too deep here). Then I removed the product key and all subkeys. Then I re-ran the Project 2010 64b install and everything appears to be working fine.
