Crash when activating Office 2013 Home and Student

I have installed Office 2013 Home and Student.  It works, but when I try to activate it, it crashes immediately after I press "Sign In".  If I enter an incorrect password, it tell me so and does not crash.  The hotmail account that I used to activate it says that the license is there.  It says it will deactivate in 5 days unless I can figure out how to activate.  Results are the same whether I try to activate using Word or Excel.
