Word 2013 and touch screen scroll issue.

I am using a surface with Word 2013 and the touch screen scroll does not always work. Can someone let me know if this works the same on their Surface 2 pro.

  1. Open a document (or create one) that is long enough to scroll on your screen.

  2. Change your view to ‘draft’ or ‘outline’.

  3. Does your document scroll via the touch screen?

Mine only scrolls via the scroll bar on the right hand side of the screen. Every other view mode will scroll without the scroll bar except view ‘draft’ or ‘outline’. Is this by design or is it a bug?

Gary

Cannot replicate the problem here on a Samsung Slate so I don't think it's an issue with Word.

Hope this helps,

Thank you Doug,

Well, dont think it is my Surface, but maybe. I have Win 8.1 and all patches loaded. I am using office pro loaded from CD.

Anyone else seeing this issue.  I can replicate it every time.

I see this on a touch ultrabook running Windows 8 and Office 2013. I can scroll in regular mode, but switching to outline mode causes touch scrolling to not work at all.

Similarly, inside of Outlook, if there is an embedded PDF file, I can see the PDF file in the message window but cannot scroll it using my finger.

Microsoft lost me at scrolling.... unless they fix this soon, I'll have to revert back to my iPad and MacBook

Mee too! Cannot finger-scroll in word when it's in outline view (draft view too). Never. Very specific to outline view (and to draft view, but I didn't know this because I never use draft view).

Yes -- I just discovered this precise problem on a surface pro 3. Scrolling works fine with trackpad and touchscreen in print layout view. But when I switch to outline view I cannot scroll at all -- neither with touchscreen nor touchpad.

Office 365 installation. Windows 8.1 on Surface Pro 3, with all updates installed.

Any ideas? This is kind of crazy.

It's really ironic that for this particular issue, scrolling on a mac using the Magic Trackpad, or on an iPad both running MS Word work just fine. It'ssupposed to be the other way around,Microsoft makes things run better on their PCs than on Macs? I'm a reverse switcher - went from Mac to Win8 because 23 inch touch screens became affordable and I was intrigued by touch. I'm putting up with desktop apps for MS office, but we need touch for the win 8.x on intel chips fast.

They lost me at scrolling... MS has committed tech suicide not getting scrolling right

exact same issue here... pretty weird. I can scroll using double fingers on the trackpad but not on the screen when looking at a document in draft view nor in plan view. Can't zoom either. It's like if it's ignoring the screen inputs in these views... that happens on my Surface Pro 2 with win8.1 and office 2013 and latest patches..

Just tried on a Samsung Slate, and all touch gestures (scrolling\zooming, etc) work in Draft View regardless of whether Mouse Mode or Touch Mode is activated.
