I am saving Word 2013 documents but it is not saving.

I am currently using MS Word 2013.

I am very diligent about saving my already saved Word documents when I input new text.

It doesn't happen all the time, but when I opened up Word today I got this stupid Document Recovery box again with a file that I worked on yesterday but while opening a different Word document:

Why is Word not saving???

I and hundreds of thousands of other people pay good money to keep this office application on our desktop every month and this is a basic function issue that needs to be addressed with Microsoft if it is a known bug.

If we cannot trust Microsoft to save our documents, why should we use Office products at all?  Or rather keep giving Microsoft our money?

Please advise,

-fryer

When you start Word, any AutoRecover file left behind will open and prompt you to save it. Normally, you should see this if Word has crashed.

Is there a particular document being affected by this? Where is it saved? Locally on your computer, in the "cloud," or elsewhere?

Thank you for helping.

Word seems to be working fine when I use it.  Word 2013 just picks and chooses when it's going to save and when it does not.  I never know when I am going to get an AutoRecover File Prompt.

All of my files are saved locally in my computer under the normal Documents folder then gets put in sub folders within Documents.  Some files are in OneDrive but as far as I know none of those files have ever been affected.

Thanks,

When did this start? If you upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 or Windows 7, that might be part of the problem.

I want to say it's been a problem since Windows 8 and cannot say for sure.  However, I did upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10.  I can definitely say that the problem has been happening since Windows 10.  But to put a timeframe on it? Ummm probably 2-3 months.

Also I had forgotten to post that it doesn't matter if I use the toolbar function and press the little blue disk button or Save rather nor does it matter if I use Ctrl+S.  The result is the same.  MS Word still does not save documents properly some of the time and it is random.

Intermittent problems are the worst kind, of course. :-(

It's a bit of a long shot, but have you tried deleting any left-over temporary files (these tend to accumulate over time, especially if Word has crashed at one point)? See http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm.

I did take a peek under the hood to find any straggling temp files... we'll see if that works.  I will mark this as helpful in the meantime and I will repost/update/reply if there are any further problems.

Thanks for the help.

It has happened again <sigh>

I again...was diligent whether using the "Save" button or typing "CTRL + S"  I still received an Auto-Recovery pop-up window within Word today on a file that I had previously worked on yesterday.  I looked in the folder of where it came from and I did not see a "~" before any filename whatsoever.  It was squeaky clean.

I give up... please advise?

Do you have IBM trusteer rapport installed?

It has been known to prevent files from being saved when using Word 2013.

Hope this helps,
