How to set up for using IAST (International Alphabet of Sanskrit Transliteration)

I'd like to be able to write the romanized version of hindi, and it seems the standard for this is called IAST (International Alphabet of Sanskrit Transliteration).

Does anyone know the name and location of this script, as I would like to install it in windows 8.

Thanks!

I looked at the page, but couldn't solve my question within that topic. Perhaps I can clarify my question.

When I want to type in hindi, I just change the keyboard language (windows space) and carry on typing. I don't need Unicode for the majority of characters. I got this at Office 2013 language options.

The problem is that I was not able to find this particular font (IAST) on windows, so I'm wondering if this might be available through other means, or perhaps it is available, but I'm searching the wrong name.

The font is certainly simpler than hindi as it uses romanized characters with extra marks (as your link mentions). It serves as a phonetic alphabet, so other phonetic systems might work as well. Does Microsoft provide a phonetic font (as they do with language fonts)?

I also found this example (Add phonetic guides to text) but I wonder if it is current to word 2013, given that it was written for word 2003. For example, it refers to the format menu, which no longer exists.

Surely there is some current method...

I know this is an old post, but since it hasn't been solved...

There is a font called "Balaram", which is designed for writing in IAST. I just did a google search for the font and it is available for download for free.

If you want a free online font, this is by far the easiest font to use, but you have to copy and paste the results to your destination:

The Devanagari script on the spokensanskrit.de site can be a little temperamental when copied to an offline location such as Word, but it works on Google Docs.

Hello there, It's really a very old post, however, the Win10 finally released "Indic transliteration" keyboard for input IAST easily, like Ānanda Mārga.

But if you just need to type like Ánanda Márga, you need "US - International" keyboard.

Yes about 4 years old, but still here and happy to make use of this new solution.

I will look up and try this new keyboard, thank you. As for Ananda Marga, a meditation and service program, I will file it under inside jokes.

You might find it by click on the "ENG" at the right corner of toolbar, and choose "Language Preferences" to popup the setup menu.

Then click on "English" and choose "Options" to go, then "Add new keyboard" something like that (sorry, actually, I am using Traditional Chinese interface and too lazy to chance to have a demo), then find  "Indic transliteration" keyboard and install, done.
