Outlook on Windows 8 hangs and does not Show CryptoAPI for Private Key

Windows 8 CryptoAPI crashes Outlook when Private Key is accessed on Highest Security Setting

Problem:
This occurs when signing, encrypting, or decrypting a email with a digital Certificate where the private key is secured by Microsoft Windows 8 CryptoAPI on the highest setting. Outlook requests CryptoAPI for the Key and Crashes or hangs.

This does not Happen on Windows 7.In addition, the private key can be accessed by Windows Live Mail 2012 on Windows 8 while Outlook 2010/2013 cannot.

I looked at the following thread you posted: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/outlook/thread/f543b04d-d510-4444-b803-1759f6c312c8

The following fix (from ravichop) works for me as well. For this fix admin rights for Outlook are not needed:

1. Delete certificate from User personal store (with IE)

2. Import certificate from Internet Explorer. Go to IE options | Content | Certificates| Import.
Important: Select the option that certificate export is allowed. (You still need the cetificate password to do the export.)

Of course this does not use the highest security level. But I do not need this.

Did this solve your problem?

Sorry this didn't help.
