MS Outlook 2010 and MS Outlook 2013 not compatible?

I have MS Outlook 2010 on my home cpu and bought MS Outlook 2013 for my office cpu.  But my 2013 Outlook program on my office cpu freezes/crashes whenever I try to open entries I've made from Outlook 2010.  Are they incompatible?

No, they are of course compatible.

What exactly are you doing and which mail account type are you using?
How are these items being created?

I have a Blackberry and am using my MSN email account.  I use the MS Outlook 2010/2013 on the different computers.  Don't do anything with the online scheduling.

When I had MS Outlook 2010 on the 2 different computers there was no freezing/crashing going on but now that I've upgraded to 2013, any entries I've made on my home cpu with 2010 causes the 2013 program on my office cpu to freeze/crash.  That's why I raised the compatibility issue.

I'd install 2013 on my home cpu but Microsoft only allows for 1 computer with the 2013 Office upgrade I purchased.

Hi,

As I understand Outlook 2013 program crashes while opening any data created in Outlook 2010.

I would need more information on the issue:

What is the type of email account configured in Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013 (POP, IMAP, MAPI or Exchange)?

Office 2013 comes with perpetual license and can be installed only on one computer. To install Office 2013 on Home system too you have to purchase a copy of Office 2013 program.

Regarding Outlook crashing while opening data from Outlook 2010 program follow the steps mentioned and check:

Step 1: Open outlook in safe mode to check if the issue is caused by Add-ins:

·         Close Outlook.

·         Press the windows key+R on the keyboard to open the Run window.

·         In Run window and type outlook /safe

Note: There is a space between 'outlook' and '/'.

If you are able to work with Outlook without any problem then the issue might be due to add-ins. In order to disable the add-ins follow the steps given below:

·         In Outlook, click on File< Options< Add-ins.

·         Under Manage select COM Add-ins.

·         Click on GO options beside Manage, uncheck all the add-ins and click Ok.

·         Try to open Outlook and check if it works fine.

Step 2: Repair the PST file and check:

If you have configured a POP account or if you have opened the Outlook 2010 PST file in Outlook 2013 then repair the PST file and check. Refer to the link mentioned which explains how to repair the PST file:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/repair-outlook-data-files-pst-and-ost-HA102749454.aspx

Note: Ensure to run the scan PST till you get the message No errors found.

I hope the above suggestions help. Let us know if you need any further assistance.

Thank you.
