How do I get Outlook 2013 to insert my Area code when creating a new contact phone number

How do I get Outlook 2013 to insert my Area code when creating a new contact phone number? I have my area code set in control panel Phone Modem. I am running Win 8

Hello Jeff,

Are you referring to ‘Phone and modem options dialog (a Windows control panel dialog)’ or the ‘Check Number dialog in Outlook’?

If you’re referring to the ‘Check number dialog in Outlook’ which would allow you to enter Country region and area codes, then Once you enter phone number to the field, double click on it and see if you get the window of ‘Check phone numbers’.

Once you have the ‘Check phone numbers’ dialog open, enter the required information.

For further clarifications, reply and we would be happy to assist.

Thank you.

Office 2010 would add the area code automatically, and could then be edited out for other areas

Can Office 2013 / Windows 8 add the area code automatically.  The method Nayana describes is not acceptable and is a step backwards

So I take it Outlook 2013 can't be set up to automatically enter a default area code for phone numbers in the contact? A serious step backward from Outlook 2007 in my opinion. Let me know if I'm missing something!

Thanks!

Hello,

Outlook 2013 will by default save phone numbers in (xxx) xxx-xxxx format.

If you click on “Home”, “Business “ and open phone numbers then the Country code will be inserted.

Thank you

You did not answer the question. You simply avoided it.

Older versions of Outlook would auto fill the area code. That is, I could tell Outlook 520 was my most used area code (NOT country code), and if I didn't type an area code with the phone number, Outlook would automatically fill in 520. It appears MS in their ultimate wisdom removed this feature.

Too bad. I liked the feature.

You have described my predicament.  I have set my local area code as default in control panel /phone and modem.  Ideally, I now wish to have that AREA Code (default) inserted automatically in the area code in me new contacts in Outlook 2013.

Seems that a number of people who respond to this matter have confused the issue by referring to "COUNTRY CODE" instead of "AREA CODE".

Any solution to this AREA CODE issue will be appreciated

I realize this original post is over a year old, but I'm hopeful that a MS moderator  will directly address the issue and let us know if it is impossible or if the user's local area code (as shown in Control Panel> Phone and Modem) can be automatically inserted in Contacts as was done in previous versions of Outlook.

There is no way to set the area code to your local area code. You have to type in the area code. Enjoy!

Wow!  Another screw up on Microsoft's part.  First there's no option for auto correct when running spell check and now this.  There's the saying "If it's not broke, don't fix it".  What the heck were they thinking of.

Just another example of Microsoft removing functions when "upgrading" versions.  Since (reluctqantly) switching from Outlook 2010 to Outlook 2013 I've found many items no longer work or are missing by default or can only be activated by tedious workarounds by VBA editing, etc.  I can't tell you how much time I've wasted trying to use Outlook, even after 12+ years using previous versions.
