Status Bar Sum Total Disappears

I use a two monitor system and will have MS Excel 2013 running on both.  On one monitor I can select a range of numbers and the sum total will show in he status bar.  When I select a cell in the workbook on my other monitor the sum total disappears.  Is there a way to not have the sum total disappear?

Hello Steve,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Office Community.

A quick question before proceeding:

Do you have multiple instance of Excel files open?

If the above is true, this is an expected behavior as Excel will only show the Average/ Sum/ Count result in the active Excel window.

As you're changing focus of the mouse by going to the workbook in second monitor, the result of the first monitor changes as it goes in active. There is no option to change this behavior.

Reply if you need further assistance and I'll be happy to help you.

Thank you.

This behavior did not exist in Excel 2010 though.  It was a lot more convenient to compare two spreadsheets this way.

It is disappointing to know that this option is no longer available in Excel 2013.

Will this option be added back in future updated?  I  have been using this feature since the 2003 version of Excel.

Hi all,

Apparently there is a workaround, see Opening workbooks by running separate instances of Excel.

I still find it cumbersome but it works.

Hi cbw1991,

Yes, by running a separate instance of Excel. See the link in my reply to MJones732.

This is insane . . . I always thought the user/customer was right . . . . Several of us have addressed how this feature was VALUABLE to us !!!  I deal with millions of dollars and am (or should I now say WAS) constantly using this feature.  Thank you for making my job harder!!!

Our office just switched to 2013, and this among a few other reasons is why I absolutely HATE MS Office 2013. I work with money all day and this feature in 2010 was extremely useful for me, the fact that it was removed is just stupid.
