I have the same problem on Surface Pro Microsoft Office Professional Plus, Excel 2013.  I have Windows 8.1 as well.  Very frustrating as I use Excel primarily for my work.

Dear Support Team,

I report same issue on Surface Pro with Office 365 Home and Excel (2013) in that package. Surface Pro had first clean Windows 8.1 installed then Office package. All updates and maintenance is automated on Surface Pro so I didn't break it ;)

Please fix this problem.

This doesnt look like its related to OS.  Its an Office problem.  I have W8.1x64 with Excel x64 fully updated including KB2827238 and do not have the problem.

I have the same problem as do many others in my office. It's obviously a bug.

I have the same problem with Excel 2013 on Windows 8.1.  I don't have the fixes specified above.  If it has been fixed on Windows 8 it has not been replicated to 8.1

Cheers

David

Mine is working normally again but I think it was after some further updates.  I have been busy and traveling so hard to tell what fixed it but my guess is in a later updated this got taken care of.

I did uninstall a bunch of the fixes originally but had not worked so hence I am guessing later fixes got it back to normal.  sorry I dont have any further info but here are all the updates I have in if you want to try and track back.

I just ran into this problem although im running W7x32 with Office 2013.  In my case uninstalling KB2827238 fixes the checkboxes.  I will note that when the update installs, it shows up 4 different times under installed updates and I had to uninstall all 4 before the problem was fixed.  If I reinstall that update it breaks again.
