In word Art how do I use a picture as the font color?

How can you do this in Mircosoft 2010 version?

Answer
It's not obvious.

In Word 2010 DOCX format files, you can't create it.

In PowerPoint 2010 PPTX files you can create it.

BUT, in the Word 2010 Compatibility mode that kicks in when you open a 2003 DOC file, YOU CAN create it.

So the procedure is:
  1. in Word 2010, create a new blank doc using <CTL><N>
  2. Use File menu > SaveAs command, change file type to DOC, and give a file name
  3. OK to save the new blank 2003 DOC format file
  4. Use Insert tab > Text group > WordArt drop down
  5. select a wordart style you want to use
  6. type your words
  7. with the wordart selected you will see the WordArt Tools contextual tab
  8. click in WordArt Styles group > Shape Fill dropdown
  9. select Picture from the drop down menu
  10. navigate to the picture you want to use
  11. OK out

You now have picture filled WordArt text in a blank document. You can select, copy and paste this filled text into a 2010 format DOCX file and it will stay filled.

This is a variation of a trick I learned on this forum, "pay it forward"

Or you can create the filled WordArt in PowerPoint 2010 the copy and paste it into your 2010 DOCX file

Text Fills in PowerPoint 2010

Excerpt/Capsule: Learn how to change the fill for the selected text in PowerPoint 2010.

The takeaway lessons:
  1. in Office 2010 the "compatibility mode allows you invoke 2003 features, like the "old" WordArtstyles
  2. Features are not equally implemented all the way across the Office suite. In this case, 2010 WordArt Text fill in PowerPoint includes a "Picture" fill option, while in Word 2010 it does not.
  3. You can create special effects in one app and copy them to another that does not allow their creation
