Occasionally I start a second instance of Outlook by mistake and end up with two instances running concurrently. Is there any simple way of preventing the second instance from starting?
In both cases I am starting the instance of Outlook via the start menu. I am not doing anything tricky or complex, I merely click the pinned entry on the start menu. What happens is that I restart the PC from hibernation forgetting that Outlook
is already running and start it again. Now, it's possible this will corrupt the PST files and I don't want that to happen.
I've never seen that corrupt a PST file. We often open multiple Outlook windows by opening folders in a new Outlook window without any problem.
However what you could try is right-click the shortcut on the Start Menu and edit the command-line it uses to add the /recycle switch on the end. See if this helps -http://www.officeforlawyers.com/outlook/tsol.htm#CLS
That will cause Outlook to reuse the already running instance, if there is one.
Or you could just be more careful about making sure Outlook isn't already running before you start it again. :-)
