Office 2010 won't install - MSXML 6.10.1129.0 required - but Windows 7 has a newer version (6.30.7600.16385)!!!!

Same as above.

The actual MSXML version reported is 6.30.7600.16385, there is no need to have the required 6.10.1129.0.

I have no explaination of this behaviour...

The Office 2010 is the RTM version, downloaded yesterday from MAPS services (not the beta).

Note: If you are missing the typelib class id in your registry on a Windows 7 system running under x64, you can create the registry entry yourself.  The trick is to make sure to include the file path of where you have msxml6.dll located on your system - typically c:\windows\system32. Yes, this workaround is gooed enough to get the Office installed working on an x64 system. You can copy the following reg settings into a .reg file and apply it to your registry.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{F5078F18-C551-11D3-89B9-0000F81FE221}]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{F5078F18-C551-11D3-89B9-0000F81FE221}\6.0]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{F5078F18-C551-11D3-89B9-0000F81FE221}\6.0\0]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{F5078F18-C551-11D3-89B9-0000F81FE221}\6.0\0\win32]
@="c:\\windows\\system32\\msxml6.dll"

This looks like a permissions issue so can you test the workaround below and let me know if it works?

• Open regedit as an admin

• Go to HKCR\TypeLib\{F5078F18-C551-11D3-89B9-0000F81FE221}\6.0\0\win32

• Right click and give yourself (or the administrators group) full permission to the key.

          • Change the reg value from %SystemRoot%\System32\msxml6.dll to c:\windows\System32\msxml6.dll and try to reinstall

Also take a look at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313222 which should work for Win7.
