Answer

Method: 1

Try to open the file in Excel safe.

Click Start> Type ‘excel /safe’ without quotes in search program and files and hit enter.

Note: There is a space between the word ‘excel’ and forward slash.

If Excel works as expected, disable the addins using the link below and empty the Excel startup folder by browsing to the location mentioned below:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/powerpoint-help/view-manage-and-install-add-ins-in-office-programs-HA010354315.aspx

Browse to the below locations and remove the files from the startup folder:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\XLSTART

C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART

Note: Take a backup of files before deleting the files.

EDIT:

Or

Run a Repair of Office...if it fails or does not work,

Completely uninstall Office and all Office enrties found in the Control Panel. Reboot, make sure Windows is completely updated. Reinstall Office and apply all updates as needed. Reboot.
