User Initials in Comments Disappearing Upon Document Save (Word 2007)

We use the Word "Comment" feature to highlight issues in a document review process, but for documents created by some users the user initials in the comment bubble disappear upon saving the document.  It goes like this:

  1. Author crafts a document
  2. Reviewer "Bobby Reed Smith" inserts a Word comment, and as he does so, his user initials ("BRS") are included in the comment bubble number
  3. When Bobby saves the document, about a half-second later the comment bubble and included text remain unchanged, but all the user initials have changed to "A",

Interestingly, this happens only for some authors;  for other authors, the comment review process works correctly (i.e., user initials within comment bubbles remain intact upon saving)

Are these Compatibility Mode documents? If so, check to see whether the option to "Remove personal information from file properties on save" is enabled at Office Button | Word Options | Trust Center | Trust Center Settings | Privacy Options.
