How can i insert an "interrobang"

Hi All,

So i'm a little slow here but i just learned what an "interrobang" is. I would like to start using this punctuation mark but the only place i can find it is in Wingdings 2 and if i create an autocorrect entry, it does not insert it at the same font size as the current setting but rather inserts it at the font size that was current when i created the autocorrect entry.

It would be great if i could do this without the autocorrect entry but whatever i have to do...

Any suggestions?

Sal

You can create an interrobang with an EQ field (discussed in detail at http://wordfaqs.mvps.org/Overbar.htm). The field code should be

   { EQ \O (?,!) }

When that field is updated, the question mark and exclamation mark will be overprinted in the same space.

When you've created the field and updated it, select it (just the interrobang, not anything before or after it). Go to Options > Proofing > AutoCorrect Options. The interrobang will appear in the With box, and the Formatted text option will be selected. Type your shortcut (I'll suggest using \ibg) in the Replace box and click the Add button, then OK.

The AutoCorrect will always insert the interrobang in the font and size it had when you created the AutoCorrect entry (an unfortunate side effect of having to use the Formatted option), but you can select it and apply any font or size you need.

I'm not sure that's an improvement over an AutoCorrect entry for the interrobang character in Wingdings 2. Another possibility is to use the Unicode character 203D, which is present in some fonts, including Calibri and Cambria.

Yes, that occurred to me as I clicked the Submit button. Really, there is no "good" solution for this or many other symbols that might be used in more than one font face/size.

I just went to the interrobang entry on wikipedia.org, copy/pasted it and saved it as a not for later.  I'm not nearly picky enough to care about fonts and sizes.  It's average size so it suits me just fine.
