Strange characters/symbols in returned emails

For a few months now when we send out emails from Outlook and someone replies to our email, there are strange characters replacing parts of what we have written.  For example, in an email today we had the word "Kathy's" and in the reply the word was changed to "Kathyà€TMs".  In many cases these make it very difficult to read the original email.

What's happening and how do I fix it?

This is caused by font encoding. What font do you use? Does it happen to all messages or just replies from certain people?

Hi Diane, All

I just verified: using CANDARA as my font for everything (including the symbols & special characters) produces those strange-looking characters in my mails - both sent and received if in HTML mode.

SOLUTION: I changed to VERDANA and it seems to work fine now.  I will send some more mails via gmail, ovi, etc and see what happens.  Nevertheless, I believe that CANDARA font group - and other similar group fonts - has "something" in it that causes the strange characters.  I downloaded CANDARA fonts from a microsoft site (I believe) because it is not part of the original fonts in XP (as far as I recall).

'hope this helps.
