Office 2007 on windows 8.1 - Problem with the first "enter your product key" box

Bought a new Lenovo yoga with windows 8.1 and am trying to install office 2007.

I got the download from Microsoft and my product key (I still have the cd and packaging) was accepted.

When I open the download, the first box that comes up is "enter your product key" and you have a choice to enter it or just continue.  However, on my laptop, this box is small and I am not able to maximize/scroll/or select anything in it. I can only see the instructions "Although you are not required.......click the help button" and I cant see or select the box to enter the product key, the help button or the continue button. Using the mouse or the touch screen will only allow my to close the box and nothing more.

Thinking that this might just be a bad download, I have tried my disk on another new windows 8.0 laptop that has a disc drive (cd works fine and can proceed as normal), and have networked both laptops. When I run the cd from the 8.1 laptop, the same problem with the box occurs.

Is this an 8.1 problem or a setting on my laptop?

I uninstalled the 365 trial version and rebooted before doing all of this.

Thank you!

If the option is available you continue, then at a later stage start Word, then Activate, which will require the Key to be entered.

Perhaps you could upload a snipe of what you are seeing. Use the snipping tool, save the snipe, then in your response to this use the 'pic' icon in your reply msg to upload the snipe

There is no option to continue. I can only select the entire box (making it purple) or close it; can't scroll in it, move up or down, or select anything else. Right click doesn't work.

This is what I see.

The word that was on it was a trial version of 365 and wouldn't accept the old product key (of course). So I tried installing 2007, then deleted 365 and tried reinstalling 2007

I would use both the manual and FixIt methods of uninstalling 365/2013

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501/en-us

Then do the same for the version you installed from cd  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/en-us

Then reboot the PC and run disk cleanup, after which install your version from its CD

Hi Ashley!

Thanks for your answer!

I went ahead and bought a 2013 Office for Students and Home and will be recieving it tomorrow.

Cheap, although annoying to have to spend more money, but it does include Outlook for mail and calender!

Hopefully it will work better.

I just found a solution, it is quite simple in fact. Lower the resolution of the screen at 1360 x 768 and restart your computer. The Windows will start with this resolution and you will be able to install office 2007. After that you can change back to native resolution of the screen and restart your computer again. Everything works just fine. I hope it helps.
