Downloading music to a flash drive.

After I download to my flash drive, it will only play the first couple of songs over and over.

I know there are more songs on the flash drive but they won't play....I have reformatted the

drive and tried over and over it is the same.?????Help please

Hi  - two questions; what method have you used to copy the files to the drive, and on what device is the playback misbehaving? Thanks, Ric.

I was using Windows  Media Player to drag and sync. assorted songs to my flash drive.

I reformatted the flash drive and tried it several times. It will play the first couple of songs

and repeat them over and over. It showed that all my music was on there. but would only

play the first couple of songs.

Since then I have tried to burn CD's and now it won't burn them either.??

I wondered if the shuffle songs was causing it. The last thing I copied to CD's was something

that I shuffled to them.

I am using windows 7.

Thank you for any help you could give me...I am just exasperated with it.

Jim

Right - with flash drives I prefer to bypass syncing from wmp  - I copy files directly from the music folder. If it's a compilation of different tracks either put them together in the documents folder first (this avoids duplication in the media library) or alternatively copy them directly to the drive. I've come across this problem of just the first track(s) playing with streaming too, but that was a while ago and I've forgotten quite what the cause was!

The CD burning issue may well be unrelated. There are numerous reasons why CDs won't burn - shuffling is only something you can do either before or after burning so I doubt that would be involved. What error message are you getting when burning fails?

Let me see if I have this straight. I copy the music from the library to the documents

and then how do I download that onto the flash drive? Sorry to be so ignorant.

If you select any file from the music library and right click it you will see the options 'copy' and 'send to' - if you want to assemble the files first use 'copy'  then paste them to 'Documents' - or you can use 'Send to' to copy it directly to your Flash Drive, which should appear as an option on 'Send to' - in the clip below my F/D is showing as 'E' (yours may appear as a name or different letter) If you want to send a whole album folder to the drive you can do that to - it doesn't have to be done a file at a time.

Please don't think of it as ignorance - the only way to find out is to ask!

I should add - if you still cannot get it to play properly after trying this method it may just be a faulty drive. I've had a couple over the years - it does happen.

Thank you ric.

It didn't really fix my problem because I think like you said,

It may be a faulty drive. I have never been happy with this

new computer. It has windows 7 and I have had trouble with

the windows media, since I got it. It will automatically double

up all the songs in the folders, But I was always able to get

it to copy to a flash drive until now.   But thanks for your

help.   Jim

File duplication can usually be resolved but it would be off-topic for this thread. Do you want to look at that as a separate issue? If so post a new q titled 'WMP - duplication of files' or similar.

I'd certainly give a new memory stick a try to confirm that is the problem. Go for a fairly low storage one (maybe 4gb) - the larger ones sometimes don't work so well with other devices.
