Why has Teams just started using 100% CPU and memory

Teams has recently begun consuming all available resources, resulting in a very sluggish user experience. Total CPU and memory usage are at or near100%, with Teams using about 80% of CPU and 23 GB memory (see attached screenshot).

I'm working on a Surface Book 3 i7 32 GB with everything up to date. Environment is Windows 11 and MS 365 GCC with latest Teams version 1.6.00.12455 (64-bit), updated 6/7/2023. The problems started in the last several days. Prior to that I'd been using Teams without notable incidents for years, about 12 months in GCC.

When I kill all Teams processes with Task Manager, resource usage levels immediately drop to normal (CPU about 30%). If I configure start-up without Teams and reboot, resource usage is also normal. I've run DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and sfc /scannow with clean results.

Thank you, Joanna, but that didn't help. I'd seen the link previously and tried a few things, but after your reply I tried each and every suggestion in order.

Please try the following:
1. Unistall and install the app
2. Clear Cache

Thanks for the suggestion, Joanna, but this doesn't entirely solve the problem. I'd tried everything detailed in https://www.guidingtech.com/fix-microsoft-teams-high-cpu-usage-on-windows/, which included uninstalling the app, clearing cache, and other configuration changes as in your link.

I took it a step further and deleted everything in the %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams folder, except the Logs subfolder. This appeared to work at first, as I monitored it for several hours last night.

When I checked again this morning, though, CPU usage was pegged again at 100%, with Teams consuming most of the cycles.

I'm facing the same issue at the moment despite trying all of the recommendations mentioned.

Windows 11 Pro 22H2 (OS build 23481.1000)

Teams Version 1.6.00.12455 (64-bit)

After a fresh Teams install (uninstalling, deleting all of the local Teams files and reinstalling), CPU utilization immediately jumps to 100% upon launching Teams (even just sitting at the login screen before signing into my account).

Per leeshengfung, I've started a thread on the Q&A forum:

Update:

I manually checked for another Teams update and one became available this morning. I installed the update and the CPU spiked to 100% for the first minute or so and has since normalized. Hopefully this update has permanently resolved the issue. The bizarre thing is that Teams prompted that it was installing an update and then restarted the application, but the version number didn't rollover.
