Why does MS Teams refuse to let me copy anything from a chat?

A colleague of mine is leaving for new opportunities next week. I must cover some of his tasks. He has shared with me some essential information, in an MS Teams chat. From experience I know that what he's shared with me will disappear in two weeks. So, I've got to copy this elsewhere. I tried copying it into a OneNote for Business page. I copied the text from the Teams chat, then tried to paste it into OneNote. However, that didn't work at all. I thought the problem was with OneNote. So, I tried to use Word instead. However, I couldn't paste what I copied, or thought I'd copied, out of the Teams chat.

So, now I'm thinking its Microsoft Teams which is refusing to let me copy anything out of the chat into the Windows clipboard. Why is Teams denying me the ability to copy???

Hi Rod at Work,

Thanks for choosing Microsoft Community.

Based on your description, I know your requirement. So sorry to bring you inconvenience. And I did a test for you. I use ctrl+c to copy the test in Teams and then use ctrl+v to paste in outlook email. So it seems my copy and paste function is well.

Please be kindly to use Teams on the web(https://teams.microsoft.com/) to check if you can use copy and paste.

If you can successfully use this function in Teams on the web, it means that there is something wrong with your client. You can try the following suggestions to check if the issue can be solved.

  1. Uninstall your Teams and re-install it again.

  2. Clear Teams cache: Quit Microsoft Teams if it shows on the status bar>Copy and paste the following location (%appdata%\Microsoft\Teams) into File Explorer>Delete contents of the entire folder>Restart Microsoft Teams.

  3. Update your Teams if your version is not the latest.

Hope the suggestion above can help you. If there is any update, please feel free to let me know.

Thank you so much for your precious time. Stay safe and healthy.

Have a nice day.

Best Regards,

Katherine

Hi Katherine,

I tried to log into the Teams website that you linked to. However, when I did it took me to my company's authentication page, where I entered my credentials. Then it took me to a page saying it failed. Then it took me back to the page asking me to enter my company's authentication page, ....

You get the idea. After four failed attempts I decided that the Web based Microsoft Teams was useless now. So, I gave up.

All in all, a pretty disappointing experience.

I'll try it again later or another day.

Rod
