Unable to access Teams. Error Code: invalid resource/AADSTS500014: The service principal for resource "https://api.spaces.skype.com' is disabled.

Little bit of background:

We have an O365 tenant that was using the Teams Exploratory license. We let the license lapse and have no interest in renewing it but want to use the free version of Teams (i.e. join meetings that someone else is hosting).

So far I have done the following:

  • Removed/disabled Teams exploratory license from Admin portal > Billing > Your Products > Microsoft Teams Exploratory Trial

  • Enabled Microsoft Teams Web Client from Admin Portal > Azure AD > Enterprise Applications > Microsoft Teams Web Client > Enabled for users to sign in

Performing the above steps resulted in a slightly different error message.

Initially, we were getting this error:

After performing the step of going through the Azure AD portal and verifying Teams Web Client was enabled, the error message changes to this:

From what I have seen online, the fixes for this error will only apply to those who actually have valid licenses. Is there any way to restore our previous free access to Teams? Our organization doesn't need the functionality outside of joining meetings hosted by other organizations.

Thank you

Hi, and thanks for reaching out. My name is Miguel O., Sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue!

Error Code: invalid resource/AADSTS500014
This indicates that a subscription within the tenant has lapsed, or that the administrator for this tenant has disabled the application, preventing tokens from being issued for it.

From what I see you have already done the solution and the issue persists.

Okay I see, I would recommend contacting directly with a Microsoft Support Agent to see what going on on their end.
