Teams slowing down laptop and freezing while presenting screen.

Hi Team,

We are facing an issue with many of our users while using Teams.

Laptop works fine as long as users are chatting in Teams or not using Teams at all.

While in audio/video call, laptop starts to slow down and when sharing the screen, laptop freezes and even after restart, laptop works slow. Slow down in the sense that the applications take a lot of time to open , cursor movement is not swift as normally it would be, everything appears to move is slow motion, navigating in-between applications(Alt+Tab) in not responsive and take some time.

If the laptop has been shutdown for more than 30 minutes , then the system works normally and sometimes Teams also works well whereas sometimes Teams issue still slows down the laptop.

We are using Dell latitude 5420/5430 laptops.

Anyone facing this kind of issue recently?

Any information on how to identify the issue and resolve it is highly appreciated.

Regards

Ashok

Dear Ashok Ankam,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with Teams. This could be caused by a number of factors, such as insufficient system resources or outdated drivers.

To troubleshoot the issue:

  1. Have you checked your laptop's system requirements to ensure that it meets the minimum requirements for running Teams? You can find the system requirements for Teams here: Hardware requirements for Microsoft Teams - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn.

  2. Have you checked to make sure that your laptop's drivers are updated, particularly the graphics driver? You can usually find the latest drivers on the manufacturer's website.

  3. Have you tried clearing the Teams cache? To do this, close Teams and then delete the contents of the following folders: %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams and %appdata%\Microsoft\TeamsMeetingAddin.

  4. Have you tried disabling hardware acceleration in Teams and check if the issue persists? To do this, click on your profile picture in Teams, then click on Settings > General > and turn off "Enable hardware acceleration."

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions. Please understand that our initial response may not always resolve the issue right away. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution. Thank you for your help.

Sincerely
De Paul | Microsoft Community Moderator

Hi De Paul,

Dell laptops we are using are corei5 12th gen/16gb/512ssd.

Completely uninstalled and reinstalled teams and cleared cache as well and there is no Hardware acceleration option in new Teams to enable/disable.

Ashok
