Teams - Revert to Classic Emojis

Greetings!

Microsoft Teams recently rolled out the Microsoft Fluent emoji style in Teams. This change altered all emojis and reactions across the platform and made them look incredibly displeasurable and unusual. In a business environment, I would venture to say the updated emojis are unusable due to the fact that they are so silly (for lack of a better word). I have thus far been unable to revert the emojis back to the way they were before this update; however, I would like to do this, as would my team. Is there any way to revert the emojis back to the way they were before this Microsoft Fluent emoji style update?

Thanks for any insight!

Hi KB_116, I'm Sergio, it's a pleasure to help you.

You can try after to remove all Teams cache files.
To delete all cache files, you follow these steps (in Windows):
a. Fully exit the Microsoft Teams desktop client.
b. Go to File Explorer, and (Windows 10) type in appdata\Microsoft\teams and remove all the content. In Windows 11 you type AppData\Local\Packages\MicrosoftTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache and remove all the content.
c. You must restart the app and try again.

If the problem continue:
a. uninstall the Team desktop app.
b. Go to File Explorer, and (Windows 10) type in appdata\Microsoft\teams and remove all the content. In Windows 11 you type AppData\Local\Packages\MicrosoftTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache and remove all the content.
c. Reboot the computer and install the Team desktop app again.

I hope that you can solve the problem, please let me know about the result, because other users with the same problem will know what to do.

Greetings.

Hello Sergio,

Thank you for your assistance! I completed all of the steps you suggested, but it did not revert the emojis to how they were before. They still show up like this:

Do you have any other suggestions?

Hi KB_116,

My name is Didi. I'm happy to help you today.

I'm afraid it's not possible to revert to the old emojis at the moment. There have been several requests to bring back the old style and I invite you to upvote or leave a comment on any of the links below.

Thank you for providing these links - exactly what I'm looking for.

Completely agree, these "new emojis" are horrible to look at and not ideal for business. I feel like we've gone back in time.

More is not always better.

Agree, totally inappropriate.

Microsoft needs to consider that not all cultures enjoy childishness in a business environment
