team mysterious ringing

the last week or so I get a random (i don't see a reason/activity for it when it happens) ringing in my headset...like a phone call ringtone, but there is no activity  on Teams.  No one is calling me or messaging me, there is not an upcoming meeting scheduled.

My IT support team thought it was something wrong/setting on my Jabra Evolve headset,   but I tried turning off a ringtone setting in the headset's settings, but yet, I still get this same mystery ringing still

any ideas what could be causing this ?

Hi David,

I'm Nik, an independent advisor here to assist you with this.

May I know if you hear this mysterious ringer when you unplug Bluetooth device and using laptop built-in audio device?

Besides, Keep Jabra Evolve headset and quite from MS Teams desktop app. Access the 'Teams Web App' https//teams.microsoft.com, use "Use the web app instead" option to open teams in a browser and check whether you still hear the mysterious ringer. These steps will help us to isolate the issue with the desktop app.

Regards
Nik

Thanks for chiming in Nik

When this just happened a few moments ago, while it was 'ringing', I unplugged my headset, and the ringing continued coming out of the speaker on my laptop

so I think that eliminates the headset as the cause ?

Hi David,

Please try the below steps to avoid common issues due to app cache:

1. Manually restart the app by right-clicking the icon in your taskbar (Windows) and selecting Quit. After you quit, click the app icon to open it again.
2. Go to File Explorer, delete any of the files in the following locations:
• %AppData%\Microsoft\teams\application cache\cache
• %AppData%\Microsoft\teams\blob_storage
• %AppData%\Microsoft\teams\databases
• %AppData%\Microsoft\teams\cache
• %AppData%\Microsoft\teams\gpucache
• %AppData%\Microsoft\teams\Indexeddb
• %AppData%\Microsoft\teams\Local Storage
• %AppData%\Microsoft\teams\tmp

Besides, Keep Jabra Evolve headset and quite from MS Teams desktop app. Access the 'Teams Web App' https//teams.microsoft.com, use "Use the web app instead" option to open teams in a browser and check whether you still hear the mysterious ringer. Hi Nik / world

I have exactly the same problem.

This happens a few times a week. The ringing only occurs when I'm already in a meeting, and does not stop, even after that call has ended. The only way to stop this is to completely end the running Teams application from the system tray.

This happens both with Bluetooth headphones or the native laptop speakers. Like original poster, the ringing also carries over when changing audio devices whilst the issue occurs (on headphones > Issue occurs > Disconnect headphones > Issue continues on speakers) and visa versa.

I have been having this issue repeatedly for several months, so a close app / restart of computer doesn't resolve the issue.

I have cleared the caches as outlined by Nik, but the issue is still apparent.

Regards

 Neil

Same for me, although in my case, it is just ringing two times on the loudspeaker after I disconnect my bluetooth headset - then it just stops. Really weird, yet annoying issue.

I have the same issue as described by Neil. Only way to make it stop ringing is to close Teams in the system tray.

Any updates?

Possibly the same issue for me, if not very similar.

When i make a Teams call, the call is answered by the recipient but the ringtone continues throughout the call and after the call has ended. As above, only way to stop it ringing is to force close the app.

I do switch between between a Jabra Evolve USB headset and my Amazon Echo Dot (Used via BT as an external speaker for clearer calls when a headset isn't required). Could the Jabra headset be the common denominator?

The ringing for me comes through the Echo but that's because I have this speaker set as my audio device on the laptop.

Anyone have an account to log a ticket directly with MS?
