MS Teams give control to guest users

Hello,

Several weeks ago I can give the keyboard control to the guest users in MS Teams meetings if the guest user uses MS Teams desktop application (it didn't work if the user uses browser).

But recently I mentioned that I cannot give the keyboard control anymore.

It still works for non-guest users.

Is it some kind of configuration I can change to allow this keyboard control?

Thank you.

Hi Sergey,

I would like to confirm the following information to determine whether it is client side issue.

Which Microsoft Teams version are you using?

Does this issue happen to any other guest users?

Regarding “recently I mentioned that I cannot give the keyboard control anymore”, could you please provide us with the detailed screenshot about the issue for further analysis?

Moreover, please try to troubleshoot this affect guest users issue via using different PC (e.g. any non-problematic colleague’s PC) to see whether the problem still occurs.

Best regards,
Shyamal

Hi Shyamal,

Version:

"You have Microsoft Teams Version 1.1.00.14359 (64-bit). It was last updated on 6/12/18"

Yes, no guest user can get the keyboard control.

From the organizer point of view the organizer cannot drop-down the "Give Control" option.

From the guest perspective the Request control option is grayed out:

Could you try to reproduce the issue? Just create a Teams meeting and invite somebody who doesn't have a MS account.

Thank you.

Hi Sergey,

Based on your description, it seems that you uploaded screenshots here, but we cannot see it. Would you mind providing to us in Private Message via below:

Besides, to reproduce your issue, I would like to know what type of Teams meeting you created, video meeting or just share screen (voice). It will be better if you can provide us some simple steps.

And you mentioned the issue happens to guest who doesn't have a MS account, may I know if the issue also occurs when the guest is using a Outlook.com or Hotmail account?

Thanks,

Iry

Hello,

I uploaded the screenshots.

I don't know the meeting type. I just go to Outlook ans select "New Items -> Teems meeting"

I tried 3 options.

1. Do not login to the Teams application. Give Control doesn't work.

2. Login as with @outlook.com account. I cannot join the meeting. I see the message

You need to be invited to Teams to use the app

3. Login with the account from the same organization. I can give the control.

I also tried to connect to the meeting with the account from a different organization that has Teams license. The situation is the same as for guest account. Give Control doesn't work.

And again. It differently worked about a month ago.

Hi Sergey,

Thanks for your time.

I have consulted the issue and they mentioned it should be an expected behavior that share control to external users. Also based on my researching, we don't have any official document to identify the feature. We apologize for the inconvenience this thing may cause you and do appreciate your efforts and time on this feature.

Of course, if you still want the feature, you are welcomed to submit your feedback via Teams UserVoice to let our Product Team know your thoughts about the feature. Microsoft set a high value on customers' feedback.

Best Regards,

Iry

Hi Iry,

Thank you for the information. I will submit my request.

I'm just wondering why this functionality worked before and then Teams developers disabled it?

BTW this functionality works ok in Skype for Business.

Also if I go to the Teams admin tool https://admin.teams.microsoft.com/dashboard and click the user I see that the user has one Teams policy assigned ""RestrictedAnonymousAccess"

Can it be somehow related?

Is it possible to assign a different policy?

Thank you.

Hi Sergey,

Thanks, we are not sure why the feature work for you before, since based on testing and consulting, it should be by design. And yes, it works in Skype for Business.

For the Teams meeting policy "RestrictedAnonymousAccess", it isn't related to Give control feature. It's used to control how external user access the Teams meetings. And we can remove or change Teams meeting policy via PowerShell commands, but there is no command to change the "Give control" permission.

Thanks,

Iry
