Microsoft Teams Status - Desktop and Mobile

I have recently received Microsoft Teams access as part of my Office pack.

I noticed that with the mobile app logged in, the status is constantly showing "Available" even when i am not active.

This means anyone looking for me would believe that i am available.

Is there no way to set it to show as away or at least a separate status that states "mobile" when we are not active on the desktop App of teams?

It is highly annoying to have to amend the status manually.

Hi, hope you're doing well. I’m Ian, an Independent Advisor and Microsoft user like you. I’m happy to help answer your questions.

I'm sorry to hear about this issue.

I would advice that you change your status in mobile to "Away" or you can set a "Status Message" instead.

I hope this helps, but please let me know if you need anything else.

Regards,
Ian

yes but that means that the status has to be changed manually on a daily basis.

This makes it (slightly) troublesome, and (very) prone to mistakes.

If this is the current set up, i will go check out the Teams User Voice page and see if any suggestions have been made.

p.s. Thanks for the reply Rian

Unfortunately the status between desktop and mobile is not dependent to each other.
The status is based on your activity on each devices so you will be needing to update manually the statuses for both devices.

Teams will automatically set your status from Available to Away when the Teams app is in the background. On desktop and web, this will happen when you lock your computer or when it enters idle or sleep mode.

That does not seem to be the case.

Changing the status on Desktop currently updates my Mobile status, and vice versa.

I have also had confirmation from my colleagues that i was showing as available on Teams out of my work hours, when my Laptop was off. the Mobile app was not actively running either (but possibly running in the background).

It seems like there are quite a number of discrepancies with the way the statuses work.

Sorry for the confusion. the precedence of the status is the Outlook/Team Calendar then your device's status (Available is the has the high precedence unless you set manually your status). If your available in one device, it will show that you are online.

I agreed there's some number of discrepancies with the way the statuses work.

Teams is quite a persistent chat. Unfortunately setting your status to away and configure your quiet hours must be handle manually.

I don’t understand. My teams app status changes to away if I haven’t touched my phone in 5 minutes even when other apps are active and the teams app hasn’t been shut down. Also, even though it says I can change my status duration on my desktop app, it still changes to away if I don’t touch my computer in 10 minutes even though I said not to change my status til end of day.

I am experiencing the same issue. If my teams app is in the background and my iphone is locked, its changing my Desktop app to Away. Very annoying to say the least.

why is there not for example a check box that one can set. It’s mobile Teams Status to offline if the office hours are over.

Here are more then 170 people and sure a lot more who hasn’t read this yet but have the same issue.

Sure one can change it manually ...

But you could also say yes we see the problem we will change this.

And this is not new.

There was such suggestion already more then 2 years ago: https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/33313933-turn-teams-in-auto-sleep-at-night

Sure there are people, which use this function because they work on standby ...

But for ordinary people who has a 9 to 5 job, and I guess that are the majority of the people who use teams, would be happy about this possibility to implement an auto turn off outside the working hours

I second Christian's comment:

"Sure one can change it manually...

But you could also say yes we see the problem we will change this."

People always seem to think I am available even when I am away from my computer or if it after work hours. I want to have access to Teams on my phone all day, but I want my phone to NOT show "available" if I am away from my computer except in specific situations where I could set the status to available. To manually change my phone to "away" every time I walk away from my computer sounds like something I should not have to do.
