Microsoft Teams sets volume to 100% as default for every new call

I have a primary set of headphones that is set as the default for applications, and a second headset with a microphone used only for calls.

The second headset is set as default communications device, and in the advanced sound options -> app volume and device preferences, the default device is the second headset. Regardless of what I change the volume for Teams to, it will default back to 100 for every new call.

I have browsed these forums, disabling audio enhancements did not work. Spatial sound is off. The exclusive control options are checked.

I'm thinking this is a OS issue with not setting child windows of an application to the remembered volume setting, but if anyone has any suggestions (that isn't reinstalling audio drivers) I'd love to not have my ears blasted every phone call.

Thank you for participating in the Microsoft Community, I am G-Emmanuel.
I am an independent advisor, I'd like to help you with this issue.

Please let me know if you already tried to manage the volume of this specific speaker using the volume mixer inside the Windows taskbar.

If it's not yet the case, please try doing it and revert to us afterwards.

Hi G-Emmanuel,

The volume mixer only shows up for the primary headphones, not the secondary one that is being used for Teams.

I was adjusting the volume for the second headset using the "App volume and device preferences" menu in the sound settings, but again it defaults to 100 every new call.

Okay, I would have suggested you to try with the Communications tab of mmsys.cpl and choose the option Do nothing to try disable automatic volume adjustment when Windows detects that you are in communication.

Hello! My name is Joe, and I am an Independent Advisor, as well as a longtime Microsoft user. I hope that I will be able to assist you today!

I'm curious as to why there are TWO instances of Teams in your App volume and device preferences. I'm wondering if this has something to do with your issue.

I'm also curious! there is one instance of teams there for just having the program open (It changes depending on whether i'm in the chat tab, teams tab, Calendar tab, etc.) and then whenever a call comes in it makes a new instance. The new instance is the problem, the existing instance will stay at whatever volume I set it to.

Same problem - everytime you start a teams call the app jacks the volume up to 100 in the App volume and device preferences settings window. I'm 100% sure it blew the speakers in a pair airpod pros (thankfully under warranty).

One thing that might have worked for me was to UNCHECK "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" on the advanced tab of headset properties in the sound control panel. I also have "headset" (airpods pairs with both a headphones and headset version) set to 1 on the levels tab. In the App volume and device preferences screen, I have teams set to 10.

I then ran "test calls" in teams and then checked back in the app volume and device preferences and did not find the volume slider back up to 100. It stayed at 10 for both the app overall and "the call".

Fingers crossed it works. Hopefully it will for you. This issue is ridiculous and clearly a bug between Windows, Teams and the BT drivers. Good luck.
