Master volume does not affect Microsoft Teams volume

When I turn the master volume up or down with the volume controls on my computer, the Teams volume does not change. I can mute my master volume, but Teams audio still does not change. The only way to adjust my Teams audio is to go to "App volume and device preferences and turn the app volume down.

With the settings on the left image, I can still hear the Teams audio. On the right, only by turning down this specific app volume setting can I change the Teams volume. This is very inconvenient when adjusting the call audio to compensate for loud or quiet mics during a call. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or solutions!

Dear Annoyed Teams User,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

I understand that you have a query on Master volume while using Teams.

My sincere apologies for the scenario you encountering

I have done some tests and research and got similar scenario. I kindly wanted to clarify on your side when you mute the master volume, you mentioned Teams audio still does not change, does this also happen when you are not connecting external headsets? (If you are using a desktop you can exclude testing recording devices)

We look forward to your response. Thanks for your cooperation.

Sincerely,

I have had this same problem. For me, I fixed it by making sure that the audio devices selected in the Windows Audio settings was the same as the device selected in the Teams devices menu. In my case, I have the speakers in the laptop and the speakers in my monitor. The audio device in Windows was the monitor speakers and on Teams it was the laptop speakers. So the Windows volume control was controlling the volume only on the monitor speakers and not the laptop speakers.

Selecting the laptop speakers for both solved the problem. I hope this helps others.

I also get this issue. VERY annoying having a full volume Teams meeting going on. After trying all of the Moderators' suggestions without ANY changes to functionality, I found and installed an app called Ear Trumpet which allows me to change volume of any app and assign any app to a sound device without having to dig through many complex and obscure windows. This helped me. I am in no way associated with Ear Trumpet. Do your own research to determine if this is right for you.

Good Luck!

I solved this in the System > Sound > volume mixer , able to change the volume in google, system and teams to different levels when all are playing sound at the same time.

Microsoft tried the separated sound level settings like in the OS, but they failed due to missing part: changing volume level of on focus app always.

Master Windows volume should be a GLOBAL setting, regardless of devices. There should be individual device controls in a context menu. Microsoft needs to fire and replace its entire UX team since they keep making worse and worse choices over time.

These are not the menu options in Windows 10 (Version 21H2).

Even if these instructions worked on my computer, it should not be this difficult to control the volume on a Microsoft Office app while running Windows.
