Lost administrator account details on Microsoft Teams

I set up Microsoft Teams at my workplace several months ago and am now trying to access the account to add team members, however I do not have the administrator account details.

I can see the administrator account listed under 'Owners' in the 'Members' list on Teams, and it has a phone number that is not associated with myself or my workplace. I have tried logging in with the phone number and it says it is not a legitimate number.

I'm not sure how this is possible as I set Teams up and assumed I had done it from my email address which is now listed as a Member, but not an Owner.

I need to retrieve access to the administrator account.

Hi, I’m Nicole, I’ll be happy to help you out today.

To retrieve access to the Microsoft Teams administrator account, you can follow these steps:

1. Try using your email address and password associated with the account.

2. If step 1 fails, you can try resetting the password by clicking on "Forgot password?" on the Microsoft Teams login page.

3. If you still cannot access the account, you can contact Microsoft support for assistance. They may ask you for proof of ownership of the account or the phone number associated with it to verify your identity. You can use the get help app in Windows or one of these links to create the support ticket.

It is recommended to keep track of all login information for important accounts to prevent such issues in the future.

Regards.

There is actually a method you can try in order to find your administrator account.

1. Sign in to https://entra.microsoft.com/# > Azure AD > All Users

2. Find your account with the prefix "admin" and copy it.

3. Then, sign in to https://admin.microsoft.com/ using the admin account > Forgot password

4. Complete the password reset procedure.

5. Try signing in again to both portals using your admin account.

Feel free to respond if you have other questions.

Thank you this has mostly worked - I now have the email address for the administrator account - however when I try to reset the password, the reset code isn't being set through to the back up account and I can't use the 'Call my office' option as the phone number listed is not associated with the business or myself, I'm not sure why it's even listed.

For that matter, you may need to consult a Microsoft agent to check the account for you and see the reason why the phone number listed is not associated with the business or yourself.

Mostly this might be on Microsoft's end.

You're welcome. Have you tried checking your spam or junk folder for the code? You may also try again, several times, if necessary.
