Issue with MS teams connectivity with Apple Airpods 2

I have 2 Bluetooth headsets connected with my Windows 10 Enterprise Lenovo Laptop. One of the headsets is Apple Airpod 2. When I enter a meeting call on MS teams using Airpods I am not able to hear anything but participants hear my voice. When I connect MS teams with other Bluetooth headset like Jabra 65T I dont' face this issue.

Also with Airpods, I only face an issue with MS teams. I am able to seamlessly take meeting calls with Webex or Google hangouts etc. So the airpods are also working fine.

Hi Suresh,

I'm Nik, an independent advisor here to assist you with this.

Please note that Apple AirPods and AirPods Pro are not in the official supported audio and video devices list with MS teams. So, you may experience some incompatibility issues.

You can check Microsoft certified devices for MS teams that provide better experience and compatibility with Teams,
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams...

Also, Please make sure that you kill all other apps that may use Bluetooth device like skype, youtube, music apps and see if that helps.

Regards
Nik

Nik,

Thanks for the reply but I don't need to do anything like this with any other bluetooth headsets which I am changing due to ear discomfort. The first day MS teams worked perfectly with airpods but since the next day there has been an issue.

Secondly due to COVID situation the load of meetings have increased since our local teams are also collaborating over MS teams so asking customers to stick up with a USB wired headset restricting users movement is a poor example customer service & is a retrograde step

Hi Suresh,

I understand your concerns, let me check if there are any settings that we can check and see if that helps.

Interestingly, I use Airpods too and most of the time, I need to manually select the Microphone and audio device while in the meeting.

Also, make sure that you disconnect your Airpods from any other devices like mobile, tablet etc. otherwise it will keep switching to other devices and fail to connect MS Teams.

When you join a meeting, ensure that you quit all other apps(e.g. skype, youtube, any game etc.) that can use Airpods. and it should show "Connect Video; Music" in Bluetooth devoice settings(refer screenshot).

Regards
Nik

thanks Nik. Airpods can only connect at 1 device at a time as per what I have read & experienced. I have tried the test call in MS teams but it doesn't help, I am not able to hear the announcement which says 'to test sound quality, record a short message' which I was only able to hear after I changed my speaker to Laptop speakers. I just have 2 options in microphone & speaker when airpods are connected i.e. laptop microphone vs airpod microphone & airpod speaker vs laptop speaker & both are default selected when airpod is connected so I didn't manually interfere. (PFB the image)

Pls note mine are 2 gen airpods just so we are on the same page. . Lastly when I take a MS teams call, my airpod microphone works fine but my airpod speaker are which don't work so in case there is a application conflict both microphone & speaker shouldn't be working.

There are several reasons your AirPods is not picking up audio. May I know if you use any external screen or speaker to your laptop?
Please remove all HDMI, USB or external devices and check the outcome. It has a similar issue with my external screen earlier.

Hi - I have tried all that was recommended but still the apple airpods do not work on Teams. It is very frustrating and am surprised that the problem has not been fixed by apple or Microsoft. In last 18 months the use of Teams has grown multifold and hence need for reliable and good quality Bluetooth compatibility. Is anyone working on this issue ?

Hi Nik sorry, just realised you're not an employee! Dear anyone who works for MS Teams,

Thank you for your support. My name's Nina and I've been using a newly bought pair of Airpods. After using it for about a week, the single instance I booted up MSTeams for a university class call, it completely destroyed my AirPod drivers.

I know that this is true, and my airpods are not broken because:

  • My AirPods connect with every other device I own completely normally, so they are not the problem.

  • All other headsets/sound devices and bluetooth devices work fine with my PC, so my PC and bluetooth drivers are not the problem.

  • I remember the very instance it stopped working, and that was when I used MS Teams call for the first time today, which, already had issues with the AirPods.

Please understand that the problem cannot be resolved with even:
1. Resetting airpods
2. Deleting airpod bluetooth drivers and reinstalling
3. Reconnecting AirPods
4. Restarting PC.

I understand that AirPods are not supported audio devices with MS Teams, however, this goes beyond AirPod support. This is damaging the goods of your consumers. It equates to being a virus which corrupts your drivers, which can be extremely frustrating.

The problems are that my airpods, although able to connect to my PC:
1. Does not make any sound at all

2. Shows that it's making sound in the volume mixer sometimes

3. Plays for 1 second only in 1 ear and then stops

4. Plays sound if i switch it in the volume mixer, after I play sound on my own headphones first. But has really unclear/choppy sounds, and is using the wrong "HANDS-FREE" AirPods device.

Please give advice on how to fix this. I don't want to be fixing this on the first hour of my birthday either :^(

Yo, I fixed it. So, what you have to do:

DON'T DELETE MS TEAMS while your airpods aren't working! This will make you unable to fix your drivers, since the only place you can alter your drivers at this point is MS Teams. Redownload it if you have to.

To fix your sound everywhere except MS Teams

1. In MS Teams > Open settings (three dots top right) > devices > change your Output Device to AirPods (Stereo), NOT AirPods (Hands-Free).

2. Switch output devices on Win 10.**

If this doesn't work, keep fiddling your AirPods by disconnecting and then reconnecting it to your bluetooth devices on your PC. After you do this, you are free to delete MS Teams forever.

Edit: This fixes the majority of sound, but some applications are f*cked forever still...

Note that this will make your AirPods not work on MS Teams... so...

To fix your sound inside MS Teams

1. In MS Teams > Open settings (three dots top right) > devices > change your Output Device to AirPods (Hands-Free). This should be the default option.

2. Switch output devices on Win 10.**

This can sometimes break your sound everywhere else, once you close/uninstall MS Teams.

Also, you can't change the output volume inside MS Teams no matter what, unfortunately.

**Don't forget, that every time you switch output devices inside MS Teams, you have to switch it in Windows 10 too. Click Sound button -> expand the arrow to select the corresponding "Playback Device" that you want:

Image

If applications open up but only some stop playing sounds

Open Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Manage audio devices > Playback > Change your default device to be AirPods (Stereo)

Hi all,

I have I thing similar problem.

In my case, when I connect my Air Pod Pro and enter the first call, everything is working smooth.

Once i disconnect from my first call, and connect straight away to another, participants can hear me, but i don`t hear anything.

Remark: What is strange, that after disconnecting from first call, i can`t hear this standard Teams disconnecting sound (This beep).

To repair this issue I found out, that I need to turn off, and turn on once again bluetooth, and once I click to disconnect, I can hear this teams disconnecting sound (beep), and once I pair my Air Pod Pro once again, and connect into second meeting, everything is working correctly.

The strange thing is that at the beginning Air Pods work correctly, it change after some time, to work like this.

This is super inconvenience and annoying.

Microsoft team, can You please help with that ? :(
