Issue joining a meeting on Teams: can join via phone app but not through Teams desktop and not through browser

Hi, I have issues joining Teams to an invited meeting as guest and without signing in. I know that the meeting does not restrict one to join as guest and without signing in. This is because I was able to join via my phone Teams app using the same Teams meeting link; but I am trying to join via the browser on my desktop, I get the message asking me to sign in into my account or to choose one of my accounts to sign in and join.

I do not want to use either my school or work accounts for some of the meetings; I do have a personal account with Microsoft (paid family subscription) but Teams does not allow me to sign in with my (paid) personal account either and is forcing me to choose a school or work accounts. So I need to have the following issues resolved:

1. Be able to join as guest into a Teams meeting via the desktop Teams app (preferred) or via browser; both of these options do not work currently even when the meeting host allows guest login (please refer to above for details).

2. Be able to sign in into Teams desktop using my personal account (which has a paid personal/family subscription to Office 365); Teams is forcing me to sign in only using my work and school account and does not allow me to sign in using my personal account. The desktop Teams app does not let me switch to my personal account or sign in to my personal account. This occurs even when running Teams using a browser and even after I logged out of my work account. A fix needs to be made to allow one to switch to his/her personal account.

Due to the above issues, I started asking people to invite me to meetings using another meeting platform for telecon until this is fixed since I do not want to use my school or work accounts for meetings not related to those.

Thanks.

Dear LK-MS,

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

We understand that you want to be able to participate in meetings by logging in to Teams as a guest or as an individual.

Typically, you can participate in a meeting directly from your browser or desktop application using guest status.

We would like to confirm with you that you can log in to your personal account via the Teams desktop application:

1. What program did you download for Teams? As different versions of the Teams program require different account login requirements, you can confirm the information of the desktop application you downloaded previously.

If you downloaded Teams for home, you can access and operate the program by logging into your personal account. If you downloaded Teams for work or school, it requires you to log in to your company or organization account to operate the program. If you do not log in to your work account, you can confirm the information and participate in the meeting after logging in.

You can refer to the information in the link below to confirm or reinstall your Teams:

Download Microsoft Teams Desktop and Mobile Apps | Microsoft Teams [3c2a-8d89-9c5-5af6]

2. Regarding your inability to participate in meetings as a guest in your browser, you can try the following to help you troubleshoot whether your teams can log in to participate in meetings on the web:

You can try the following to help you troubleshoot whether your TEAMS on the web side can log in to participate in meeting information:

- Clear Cache and Cookies: If you are using a browser, clear your cache and cookies; sometimes persistent data can cause login problems.

Disclaimer: Your browser automatically saves temporary internet files to help pages load faster. Clearing this cache will sometimes fix website issues. Please back up all your personal files first, such as Favorites, to ensure you do not lose data.

- Use a different browser: Try using a different browser to access the meeting links. This will help determine if the problem is browser related.

- Incognito Mode: Open an incognito or private browser window, paste the meeting link in it, and try to join. This will prevent the browser from using stored login data.

- Check Browser Permissions: Make sure the browser allows pop-ups and redirects to open, as these are commonly used for the team's guest login process.

If it's convenient for you, you can share a screenshot of the corresponding error page with us and we'll help you identify the issue further with your details.

Hope this alleviates your issue and you can get back to us if it doesn't work or if there are any updates.

We look forward to your response.

Best Regards,
