How to Manage Files in Teams Free

Hi,

My company has been using Teams Free since the lockdowns began, and it has been fantastic. However, we've recently run into a problem with some of our graphic designers no longer being able to share files.

They get an error message that states they have reached the 2GB limit and to upgrade or free up space. There is no way that we can find to free up space.

We use Microsoft Exchange for our email service, maintaining our own servers. This means we do not have MS365, and the reasoning is more because of needing to maintain our own email servers rather than a pricing issue. However, because of this, we do not have access to SharePoint.

Is there any way to manage files in Teams Free without purchasing MS365?

Hi Jackie, my name is Jose. I'm an Independent Advisor and a Teams user like you. I'll be glad to help you today.

Microsoft Teams works with SharePoint (yes, free Teams too). To get the address of your SharePoint site, go to the General channel, select File tab. Right click over one of those file and select Copy link. The link will start with your SharePoint site. Edit the link until get a link like tenanid.sharepoint.com, then go to this url. Now into your SharePoint select Site content. You will get the recycle bin at the right. Select it and proceed to empty.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

If you have the name of your tenant, please replace the expression tenantname in this url to get access directly to recycle bin.

Thank you, Jose! This wasn't exactly the answer, but you did lead me to it. I'd like to share for anyone else who has this problem.

Final URL: https://tenantname-my.sharepoint.com/personal/username_domainname_com_ext__tenantname_onmicrosoft_com/_layouts/15/onedrive.aspx?view=13

Where username_domainname_com means your *** Email address is removed for privacy ***. If your email address is @companyname.net or @nonprofitname.org, you'd fill that in instead. So for a user named John Doe working for the UNSC...

  • jdoe_unsc_net

  • jdoe_unsc_org

Navigating there from SharePoint:

  1. Use Jose's URL: https://tenantname.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/AdminRecycleBin.aspx?view=5

  2. On the left side, you'll see My Files.

  3. Find a file that points you to OneDrive.

  4. Click on the link to the File location.Image

  5. You'll arrive at the OneDrive Location for your Teams files, including the Recycle Bin! Manage away!
