Is it possible to add a Onedrive Folder as a teams tab? How? It seems impossible to do this. I have found an annoying workaround (see below) but I would like to know a direct and simple way to avoid being forced to use the teams "files" tab. Hopefully this is helpful to many in the same situation.
I have closely reviewed a couple threads linked here
How do I share a OneDrive folder with Teams? Not uploading a copy of - Microsoft Community
Unable to access OneDrive via the Files tab on Microsoft Teams - Microsoft Community
How can I add a onedrive shared folder to a tab in a Team page. - Microsoft Community
The above thread also provides a feedback link, however that link appears dead?
All threads on this topic appear closed to new questions and comments, so i am creating this one.
Preconditions
-My organization has a specific and defined folder structure in onedrive, and for functional purposes this file structure cannot be altered.
- I want to add a tab in teams to share a specific onedrive folder for a project.
-This folder and its contents are synced across the org therefore creating a copy of this folder is absolutely not an option. We need to work on a set of shared documents in the existing onedrive file structure..
Additional Background
-All team members have permissions to the folders
- The OneDrive app works and is synced with the "new" teams. It is available on the nav bar on the left side of my teams home screen and I can navigate through the teams gnedrive integration to all the folders that i want to link. I simply cant link them in a tab.
- I've tried adding a tab as a website link(using a weblink to the onedrive folder) in the teams tab. The website tab is created but show up as blank and appears unsupported.
- I've tried adding a sharepoint tab and providing a link in the correct format https://[orgname].sharepoint.com...etc.. but teams does not allow this link saying it is unsupported. Here the solution given states to use a "document library" or "sharepoint page" link but doesnt give a solution of how to add a direct sharepoint link :SharePoint Link Not Supported when trying to add to Teams - Microsoft Community.
Workaround
- I created a sharepoint page where I added each folder wanted as a "quicklink" element. I then selected a folder icon to represent each quicklink.
- In teams, I added a tab as a "sharepoint page" and named it "shared onedrive files"
-The result is that a once you click on one of the folders, works quite seamlessly once the tab enters onenote/sharepoint file structure.
-The downside is that it takes more time than i would prefer to set this up.
-I would add a screenshot of this but the function to add a picture doesnt seem to be working right now.
