Aftershokz opencomm sound not working for Microsoft Teams

The Aftershokz opencomm does not work for longer than a few minutes in Teams before losing sound. I have replaced the earphones and tried every driver update and advice provided prior for this with no luck. I have a Surface Book and do see where others have said they have the same problem,  but had no issues with the Surface laptop. Is there any planned fix for this for a Surface Book? My other Aftershokz devices work fine, it is just the opencomm not working for Teams (but it works for all other sound on my laptop and other devices). Thank you!

Hi Shannon,

Thank you for posting. If you are using Teams desktop client you may try to use the Teams web client (https://teams.microsoft.com) via Incognito/InPrivate browsing window with latest Chrome/Edge Chromium to check this issue.

Moreover, we highly recommend to use the qualified/certified device for Teams client. For your reference: Microsoft Teams certified devices

Your understanding is highly appreciated. Have a nice day and stay safe!

Best regards,

Shyamal

Thank you, Shyamal!  I am deaf/hard of hearing and need to use a bone conductor headset - can you help me understand which one of the "qualified/certified device for Teams client. For your reference: Microsoft Teams certified devices " fit that?

thank you!

Shannon

I have this exact same issue with my Aftershokz OpenComm on two different Surface Book 2's and I have not found a fix yet either.

I would call out that its not just Teams that looses audio with this device, but any audio playback via streaming via a web browser or playing in Windows Media Player.

I just got a set of opencomm’s and they don’t work with my surface either. I’m not trying to use them with teams but I can’t get them to work for more than a few minutes

Facing same issue. Primary device is Surface on Win11.

However, dug up my old Surface on Win10 and initial test seems ok.

Can I check if anyone out there is on Win10 and the Aftershokz Opencomm works?

10. From what I could dig up online the issue seems to be intel’s Bluetooth card has a hard time switching Bluetooth profiles. Typically audio and communication are on two separate protocols and windows can’t figure out which is which.. seems like a really simple problem that a company as established as Microsoft shouldn’t have on their products. What I ended up doing was ordering an Avantree DG80 Bluetooth USB dongle from Amazon and that’s been working for me.

Do you still use the built in BT chipset for keyboard and mice with that adapter? Also do you have the system interrupts maxing the cpu for you still after using the dongle for audio?

My bt mouse still connects with the built in chip. This Avantree adapter only supports audio devices. Not sure what you mean by system interrupts - do you mean sounds and notifications from Windows? I haven't monitored CPU performance but I've not had any noticeable performance issues. Annoying to have to fix it this way when the surface only has one USB port but at least it's reliable now.
