ami pro import into word

Is there a converter to allow importing of old Ami Pro files into Word 2016 Pro?

How old?

My guess is that Word 2016 won't have a converter. Heck it does not even support MS Works 9 (2007) imports.

Your best bet is to search online. There are many online sites that support conversion to/from hundreds of formats. There may even be some tools you can install locally if data privacy is an issue.

Sorry there isn't a better answer.

You can download Lotus Smart Suite free of cost and use this to open Ami Pro files. You can save Ami Pro files as rtf files (or possibly as .doc files) which are fully compatible with MS Word.

My files are some old, 1996, and going forward to about 2004 or so before I began storing them in ".rtf".  Most of them are not critical but I would like to convert them to something more recent if possible.

Thanks for the response and I will follow your suggestion and search the internet...

You should/may be able to import the RTF files. But AMI pro format files will have to go through some other intermediate program to do the conversion.

That reminds me. To options to try are Google Docs online and Libre Office. They both have a good reputation for file conversion. Actually, you should post this question on the libreoffice forum. Ask if one of the older versions could handle it and if you could still get an executable. LibreOffice 3 came out just after the time frame you mentioned, it may be a candidate for your need.

The latest iteration of LibreOffice might well solidify the flagship open source office suite as a solid contender to meet your productivity needs.

The UI
As I mentioned, this is the biggest change to hit LibreOffice in quite some time. The new LibreOffice interface (Dubbed “MUFFIN”, for My User Friendly & Flexible INterface) takes a slight nod from MS Office’s Ribbon interface and attempts to improve upon it. If you open one of the LibreOffice tools and go to View | Toolbar Layout | Notebookbar, the UI will switch to something that appears a mixtape of the Ribbon Interface and tabs (Figure A).
The LibreOffice Notebookbar in action.
There are actually four types of UI styles to choose from:
• Default - the standard LibreOffice interface
• Single toolbar - a single toolbar where you can place only the buttons you need
• Sidebar - a single toolbar with the addition of a sidebar
• Notebookbar - the Ribbon and tab mashup
I’m growing to like the Sidebar layout, as it does an outstanding job of organizing everything necessary to work with a document (and do so with a nod to efficiency). Even so, the Notebook bar will probably wind up being my default (as I find it offers the same level of efficiency but without robbing the document of precious real estate), only without the unflatteringly 90s retro tabs. To get rid of the tabs, uncheck View | Notebookbar | Tabbed.

LibreOffice, a free alternative to Microsoft Office, now has an optional ribbon interface.
Version 5.3 is now available with many added features which will be familiar to Microsoft Office users.
Write (equivalent of Word) now has Table Styles and a Go To box which have been in Word for some time. The Page Deck – a sidebar to change page settings would be a welcome addition to Word.
