Spell Check Not Working Word 2007

My Spell check function in Word 2007 is not working. I have visited "help" and gone through the steps there.  I am an experienced user and this should be simple, but I cannot find a way to turn on spell check for all documents.

Spell check is not working at all for new docs.  If I go to "review" and "proofing" for a specific document, I get a popup that says spellcheck complete.  I have intentionally made errors that should be highlighted, but the checker does not seem to respond.  Help, please.

I had the same problem. It turns out the "style" I was using somehow got set to "do not check spelling". The styles are listed on the right-hand side of the Home ribbon; the one you are currently using will highlight (it's probably the one called "Normal"). Right click on the style. Select Modify > Format > Language and then you'll see a check box for "do not check spelling and grammar". Make sure there is no check mark there.
