Question

Q: "My Templates" is where?

When I want to create a new document from a particular template, I see a source called "My Templates" with nothing in it.

But when I open a "blank" document from the "normal.dotx" (???) template and change formats as I want for a new template and then try to save as "---.dotx" new template, I see nothing corresponding to "My Templates".  Where in bleep do I need to store my new template so it will later appear in "My Templates"?

Answer

A:

The location for ‘My Templates’ is ‘C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates’.

Not on Windows XP! The default location for User Templates is %appdata%\Microsoft\Templates which on Windows XP equates to

C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates.

It is also possible to set the User Template location to a preferred different location, though that does not appear to have been the case here.

However as others have indicated, the Word 2010 File Open/Save dialogs have the correct location pre-programmed in the Places Bar to the left of the dialogs as 'Trusted Templates'.
