Office for Mac 2011 Crashes After Mountain Lion Installed

I have just installed Mountain Lion 10.8 and have Office for Mac (updated to SP1 v14.2.3).

Outlook works great after re-booting the system. No issues seen yet.

Word, Excel and Powerpoint all crash while starting up. In the startup splash screen the message says "Updating font menu (xx%)" and updates the % number a few times, but when it hits around 85 or 86%, each program crashes.

So it's obvious there's a font incompatibility issue with the fonts that Mountain Lion has in its System>Font directory.

Who and how will this get fixed?

Answer
For me nothing of the proposed solutions (repair permissions, clear font cache, restart) worked, but executing the "Restore System Fonts ..." operation from the FontBook > File menu did the trick. I was afraid some fonts would get removed but even all custom fonts remained in the font book and all Office Programs launched without problems again.

IF its dying as its building the font cache. You have some issues with fonts. Possibly duplicates or corrupt.

try one or the other of these links:
http://word.mvps.org/Mac/fontweeding.html
http://www.officeformachelp.com/office/font-management/

Repair permissions (Disk Utility)

Then uses a Cache removal tool such as Font nuke and get rid of old caches file.
Restart then try Word, Excel. PowerPoint

let us know what happens after you try the repairs.
