I installed Visio Professional 2010 from Microsoft HUP. The application opens fine on the Desktop, but when I create a new document Visio freezes and, worse, sometimes the pointer does not reappear in any application. I am using a Type 2 Cover as my pointing device.

Welcome to the community.
Thank you for reaching out to us. I know this is must be very frustrating for you.
To better our service, would you provide more details?
This issue only happens when you use Visio? How about other office applications?
Were you running other processor heavy programs at the same time?
Do you have 2 gigabyte (GB) available disk space while using Visio?
Make sure you have all updates.
Let us know if you have further questions or concerns.
Thanks ,
Clare

I am not sure if there are many Visio users on Surface so this might not have come up before.
This issue only happens when you use Visio? How about other office applications?
- Visio 2010 is the only MS Office application I have installed.
- No other programs running.
Do you have 2 gigabyte (GB) available disk space while using Visio?
- I have 85.5GB of free space on C:.
Make sure you have all updates.

Hi,
Do you mean the Visio 2010 was no response after opened a new file?
The issue might be caused by the add-in "Send to Bluetooth." We may try to remove/disable it to check if it is helpful.

Thanks for the advice, but I do not have the Send to Bluetooth Add-In installed.
The problem happens when I create a new diagram.
Any other ideas?

Hi,
We may try to check and analyze event log or collect the app crash dump to do further research. Steps:
First enable app crash dump collection by copying following words into notepad, saving it as dump.reg and importing it:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\localdumps\Visio.EXE]
"DumpFolder"=hex(2):63,00,3a,00,5c,00,63,00,72,00,61,00,73,00,68,00,64,00,75,\
00,6d,00,70,00,73,00,00,00
"DumpCount"=dword:00000010
"DumpType"=dword:00000001
"CustomDumpFlags"=dword:00000000
Then, open Visio to repro the issue. If crash issue appeared, please find the crashdump file under c:\.
To further help you, please upload this file into One Drive and shared the link here.
Also, you can try to analyze dump by yourself if you would like to:

I successfully imported the text into RegEdit. Started Visio and encountered the same problem: fine until I created a new document. No crash file was created. Did I miss a step?
I tried just leaving it running, but it doesn't "crash" on it's own. It just sits there looking at me. Maybe that is why no crash file appears in C:\.

Do you mean "TabletInputService"? OK. If I go from Task Manager to Services. Yes now Visio works with the mouse.
No touchscreen, but it does seem that the pen works nicely.
