Question

Q: Visio Floor Plan

I am creating a floor plan in Visio that will include doors and windows. I have added the doors and windows to the room shape. When you click on a door or window it will display the dimensions of the door or window (2'-6"). How do I get the sizes of the doors and windows to be permanently displayed on the floor plan?

Hi,

Please try the following steps:

  1. In Visio 2013/2016, go to Developer tab, in the Show/Hide group, check Drawing Explorer to display it.
  2. Expand Foreground Pages > Page-1 > Shapes
  3. Select the Door shape, expand Shapes under Door, select Sheets one by one until the dimensions is selected in the drawing page (Sheet.13 in my example).
  4. Right-click the selected Sheet (Sheet.13 in my example), select Show ShapeSheet.
  5. In the User-defined Cells section, click User.Hide.
  6. Change it to False. Then the dimensions can be always visible in the drawing.
  7. Repeat Step 3 to 6 for all other shapes (other doors and windows).
