UPLOAD FAILED We're sorry, someone updated the server copy and it's not possible to upload your changes now.

I recently switched to a new PC that is running Windows 10 and Office 2016. I am accessing Excel Workbooks stored on O365 SharePoint and am constantly getting the following error when I save an Excel workbook to SharePoint:

I am the only one editing the workbook, and in the file history in the SharePoint Library actually shows that I edited it... Even though the save failed.

What can be done to avoid this error and restore my confidence in that my changes are been saved properly?

Moved from: Office / Excel / Windows 10 / Office 2016

HI Allison,

Please try deleting cache files in Upload center. To do this, right click on Start menu > Search > search and Open Office 2016 Upload center > click Settings > Delete cached files, click Ok, see Delete your Office Document Cache for more information.

Also, try opening Word application, click File> Account, under User Information, click Sign out from all the user account and then sign in again using work account, check if Office application works as expected.

If the issue persists, please provide the following information:

  1. Provide the screenshot of Office 2016 Product Information. To get this screenshot, open Excel/Word 2016 on your system, click File>Account, capture the screenshot of all the information mentioned under Product Information.
  2. Do you get the error with all the Office files or specific ones?
  3. How do you save the file to OneDrive?
  4. Which OneDrive sync client are you using? To confirm, hover over the OneDrive sync client on the system tray, when you see a pop up box with the name, take a screenshot and send it to us.

Additionally, right-click the blue OneDrive - <your company> cloud icon in your taskbar notification area, and then select Settings, select the Office tab, clear the Use Office 2016 to sync files that I have open check box, see if this fix the problem.

Thanks,

Neha

Neha, thanks SO much for your reply!

I was giving it a little time to see if the issue popped back up, but it appears clearing the cache and the sign out/sign in have helped so far!

I was hopeful that the issue was resolved by clearing the cache and logging out/in, but the behavior returned today... Below you will find the information you requested. Also I tried clearing the Use Office 2016 to sync files that I have open but it resulted in having multiple copies of the file.

2. So far I have only noticed it with a specific one

3. I use the save button in the local excel application

Allison,

Have you been able to find any resolution to this issue? I have several users here in my company that are having this and it is driving me mad. I noticed that this has been idle for a while.

Thanks,

Brad

Hey Brad,

Yea it is still driving me nuts too. I actually have an open case with support and the person I am working with is also working with the SharePoint team... So no resolution yet, but we're still working on it. I'll post something here when we figure something out.

Conversations within the open support ticket I have make it sound more and more like some sort of SharePoint or OneDrive sync issue. Just for reference though I am on a slightly older version than you 16.0.4591.1000
