Sharepoint blog owner cannot save as draft

SharePoint has always intimidated me. Tonight is a classic example of how unintuitive the out of box experience can be for SharePoint:

  1. I created a blog site in SharePoint.
  2. I created my first post.
  3. I wanted to save the draft.
  4. I went to the Edit tab in my post's page
  5. Expected: an enabled Save as Draft button
  6. Actual: Sadly, the Save as Draft button is disabled.

I have yet to see instructions that match a SharePoint Blog that tells me how to do what I expected to be able to do as the owner of the Blog.

Clearly, permissions cannot be the cause of a disabled button. So where else can I look for a solution?

Answer

Hi Mcorning,

Save as draft is an option for items in a list which is set to be approved by site approvers before being published.

Since the post in a blog site is a list in fact, you should enable the option via Manage posts>List Settings>Versioning Settings>setting as follows.

After taking the steps above, you will see that the option has been enabled.

Thanks,

Cliff
